Non-Turf Artificial Cricket Match Wicket – Play Cricket All Year Round With Minimal Maintenance

Artificial cricket match wickets are used by schools, colleges, universities and clubs to play cricket in areas where a natural grass turf wicket is not feasible. They require minimal maintenance, are cost effective and can be played on all year round. Non-turf artificial wickets are a very popular choice for venues that experience extreme weather conditions like snow or very hot temperatures that make natural grass wickets near impossible to create and maintain to the correct standard of playing performance.

Our non-turf artificial cricket surfaces are available in 2 grades: Club Spec & Test Grade.

Our Club Spec Cricket Matting has been upgraded in 2020 to create the very best tufted artificial playing surface in cricket. It has been specially engineered to be longer lasting, have the correct ball bounce, enhanced grip for ball spin and to be more consistent over years of usage.

Our woven Test Grade Matting is an upgraded cricket surface used by numerous County Cricket Clubs and ICC/ECB training facilities worldwide. Made in Britain this matting consistently offers the very best ball bounce and spin performance. It is referred to as the “Rolls Royce” of cricket matting.

Both types of matting are suitable for cricketers of all abilities/ages and can be used indoors/outdoors.

Ball Bounce & Spin Like Natural Turf Wicket

Our Tufted Club Spec cricket matting has been redesigned to improve performance and make it feel more like playing on a natural turf wicket. The 10mm thick carpet and 6mm shockpad give the ball the correct bounce performance (not too high or too low) when installed over the correct subbase. We have increased yarn density (volume) to 75600 stiches per square metre to enhance the mattings grip on the ball, this makes it perfect for spin bowling.

Our 8mm thick woven type cricket carpet is the closest artificial equivalent you’ll get to playing on a natural turf wicket ball performance wise (when used with our 6mm shockpad). The ultrafine, high density yarn enhances the mattings grip on the ball to create the very best spin characteristics which is why it’s trusted by County Cricket Clubs.

Strong Weatherproof Construction

The green yarn (artificial grass blades) on both types of cricket surface are rot proof and UV treated so it doesn’t degrade in the sun. The yarn is tufted or woven into a fibre backing for long lasting strength, durability and performance.

5 Year Warranty & Lifespan Up To 10 Years

Both types of non-turf artificial cricket wickets are strong, robust, long lasting and weatherproof. They come with a 5 year warranty (when correctly installed/maintained) and last up 7-10 years. Lifespan depends on the installation, maintenance and usage of the matting.

Performance Consistency

Any competitor can say that their artificial non-turf match wicket will last years, but this is pointless if the performance suffers over time to create a poor playing surface. This mainly happens due to the green yarn (artificial grass blades) distorting or leaning to one direction over time creating inconsistent/irregular ball bounces and poor grip/ball spin.

Both our artificial cricket carpets have been specially manufactured with a crossed linked, non-directional yarn formation. This means that the yarn will not distort or lean to one side, even after years of usage and repeated foot traffic over the playing surface. This technology ensures both cricket surfaces have the best bounce and spin performance.

Shockpad/Underlay

For our artificial non-turf cricket wickets, we recommend adding our 6mm Polyester Shockpad/Underlay. It absorbs both player and ball impact which increases the life span of the cricket surface and makes it kinder on player’s joints (reduces stress). It also enhances the ball bounce performance to make it more like playing on natural turf wicket.

Installation Advice

For a non-turf artificial match wicket, we recommend installing an Aggregate/Dynamic Base for best ball bounce (performance wise) and quick rainwater drainage:

  • We recommend a timber frame edge border to contain these materials.
  • Bottom 50mm layer to be filled with limestone or granite (trade call it MOT Type 1).
  • Middle layer is filled with a weed control fabric (100gsm or above in quality).
  • Top 50mm layer is filled with 6mm granite to dust or sand.
  • You then tension and secure down the cricket shockpad/underlay and then the cricket matting using nails/screws.

Simple Maintenance Tip

Regularly keep the cricket matting clean and free from mud and moss using a stiff brush, water and moss cleaning agents. This enhances the lifespan of the artificial cricket carpet and ensures good, consistent ball performance when the matting hits the surface.
