Cricket Clothes Size Guide
Cricket Clothing Sizes, History & Care Advice
Cricket whites are the traditional unforms worn by cricket players. Typically consisting of a white jersey, pants and sometimes a sweater depending on the weather, when it comes to buying cricket uniforms it is crucial to get the right fit. If they are too tight, it can potentially hinder your movement and technique, whilst clothing that is too loose can also limit movement and cause issues (particularly in the wind).
The tricky part about buying cricket clothes is figuring out what size you need. Typically, most retailers will use the traditional sizing which consists of XXS to XXL, and children sizes go by age ranges like 8-9 or 10-11 years. For each retailer these sizes can vary, which is why we have created this comprehensive size guide, so you can get a good understanding of what sizes fit best.
Measuring Up Shirts - Additional Tips for Exact Measurements
If you are still unsure about your size, you can use a measuring tape and measure the following areas:
Finding Your Perfect Fit
- Chest/Bust - Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest/bust, keeping it level and under your armpit.
- Waist - Measure around your natural waistline, which is usually the narrowest part of your stomach. Make sure the tape is snug but not tight.
- Hips - Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and buttocks for accuracy.
- Height - Stand straight against a wall, without shoes, with your heels together and back straight. Measure from the top of your head to the floor.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
Shirt fit preference
When deciding on what size of cricket uniform apparel to purchase, you should also consider your personal preference when it comes to fit. Some players prefer a tighter fit of cricket clothing, as it feels more aerodynamic for making runs, or they may prefer tighter fitting clothes for specific matches, because the lower level of ventilation provides more warmth on colder, windier days.
Other players may prefer a looser fit for comfort, or the option of a looser fitting cricket uniform for hot, sunny match days as the extra breathability and ventilation can help them to keep cool.

Some shirts may have additional measurements, like the neck or waist. Refer to the specific clothing size charts for details.
CRICKET CLOTHING FAQ’S
Why do cricket players wear white?
Going back to cricket's early days in the UK in the early 1800s, players could only wear what was widely available. With the cotton industry thriving, most would wear white cotton clothing as that was affordable.
Players used to wear frilled shirts and breeches but later opted for a white collared jersey and pants. This became the official attire for test cricket as it was not only elegant but practical. The color white was also ideal for test cricket as it was visible and reflected the suns heat, keeping players cool.
Cricket whites have now become part of cricket’s rich history, which is why test cricket still uses white clothing. Whilst this is common for this form of cricket, there are other formats including the T20 which use brightly colored uniforms for team identification.

How do you clean cricket whites?
With proper care, you can keep your cricket whites looking as good as new! Start by pre-soaking them in cold water for about 30-60 minutes with detergent or stain remover to remove any dirt. Then put your cricket whites on a 30°C (86°F) wash with a good detergent for whites (please note it is not recommended to use bleach). We also recommend keeping cricket whites turned inside out whilst washing to protect any print and advise not to include any other colors to keep your uniform white. Once washed, air dry in a well-ventilated/outdoor area away from direct light and away from direct sources of heat like radiators, dryers and fires.
How do you get rid of stains from cricket whites?
Stains are a common issue with cricket whites with grass stains particularly problematic. When trying to get rid of grass stains it is important to soak your cricket clothes in cold water with detergent, Wash in cold water and don’t dry until the stain is gone. For mud stains, let them dry completely, brush off the loose dirt, rinse and then wash it like a grass stain.
Washing cricket whites is crucial but it is important to check the label before washing or using any sort of detergent, as instructions can differ between manufacturers. Make sure to use a good detergent and avoid bleaching. For drying, it is always best to air dry, as most cricket whites are not suitable for the dryer.
